Tip #1. Breathe Before You Decide

Every human being thinks three dimensionally, about any decision they make. We call it subconscious thinking, and conscious thinking. 90{1e16acf445973e61fdbd53de1c132af7e84fd195cf15d57956db2b0426c8fa60} of the day, everybody makes subconscious decisions. The human brain consciously can only think about seven things. Subconsciously we can think of millions of things at one time. When we breathe in oxygen, our brain gets this oxygen and it makes us feel and think.

Here’s an interesting practice that Allan Miller one of my podcast guest episode #32 witnessed in an organization at Japan. All the employees get a martial art mat and sit cross legged as karate businessmen. In the middle of the room, they put up a problem on the floor. It’s a real problem in the company. They do a breathing exercise for 20 minutes. As they breathe in for 25 seconds and breathe out for 25 seconds they think of the problem and generate initial ideas how to solve it. Now that’s pretty cool way of bringing in breathwork to the workplace for creative problem solving and decision making.

When it comes to decision making we can sometimes have a potential blind spot. We may make a snap decision that may be the wrong one. The good news is when we understand through self-awareness of our potential blind spot, we get our conscious brain active to avoid that blind spot when making decisions.

Tip #2. The Case For Eating Organic Food

What makes the actual case for buying organic food? Why is it important to buy local food and know your farmers? Why is organic food so expensive?

I always tell my clients “Spend the money now rather than later”. We’d rather spend it now than eating food that is not nutrient dense. If you don’t eat organic, unfortunately, you may face serious health problems, why? Because these foods are heavily sprayed with chemicals that are toxic to our body and brain. Another challenge with the use of pesticides, herbicides & excessive fertilizers is that they ruin our soil. In fact, 90{1e16acf445973e61fdbd53de1c132af7e84fd195cf15d57956db2b0426c8fa60} of fertilizers don’t help grow our food, instead it goes into the soil and water system.

For amazing information on this topic listen to my podcast with Sanjay Lanka ‘We Are Only As Healthy As Our SOIL’ on the Self-Care Goddess Podcast.

Luckily lots of countries are investing in training small farm workers to become organic farmers. In US, Canada and other places, there are famers’ markets. Find out where you can visit a weekly farmers’ market not too far away from your home, so it’s local. A lot of these farmers’ markets are farmers who are growing their foods organically and more affordable. Because by buying directly from we’re cutting out the middle, there is no third party involved taking their cut. I invite you to develop these relationships and communities. We need to connect and create communities, especially inner-city communities and places where children can have access to growing their own food. Even if you have little room, an apartment with a small balcony, it’s important to just grow that one herb or even a flower because it will make a difference eventually. Trust me on this.

Tip #3. Pre-Surgery Affirmations: Prepare Your Body, Mind & Heart For Self-Healing & A Speedy Recovery

I invite you to use these affirmations to overcome negative thoughts, anxieties or fears for your upcoming surgery. Getting results from affirmations requires us to actually start believing and embodying the thing we are affirming.

So I invite you to focus on the feelings more so than the words when you’re saying these affirmations. I invite you to really feel these affirmations, feel the emotions they evoke in your heart by breathing and focusing your attention in the area of your heart center while affirming these and begin to truly embody these affirmations to better prepare you for your surgery.

Tip #4. Myth: Fasting Decreases Your Metabolism

Fasting Decreases Your Metabolism? Nope-this is so not true.

On the contrary, our metabolism actually increases during fasting and our hormones allow for a switch in energy source from food to body fat with no drop in energy. Caloric reduction, on the other hand will lower your metabolism because your body cannot run a deficit indefinitely so it will decrease your energy expenditure. Actually, intermittent fasting has several important weight loss advantages over other diets based on continuous calorie restriction.

I have seen it as a highly effective weight loss tool for many people. According to a study published by the National Library of Medicine in 2000 a 3-day fast actually increases the metabolism by an impressive 14{1e16acf445973e61fdbd53de1c132af7e84fd195cf15d57956db2b0426c8fa60}. This increase is thought to be due to the rise in the hormone norepinephrine, which promotes fat burning.

My Workplace Wellness Calendar can guide you how to chart your course to success.

Think about it this way. If you were a hunter-gatherer roaming the plains 40,000 years ago, would you want your body shutting down after a fruitless hunt? Of course not. You’d want to be extra alert so you could hunt down your meal on the next hunt.

That’s exactly what happens during an intermittent fast. Fueled by the burning of fat, your metabolic rate is maintained or increased by temporary fasting. Looking to begin your fasting journey? A good beginner fasting option is ALTERNATE-DAY FASTING for about 12-16hrs. Connect with me I can guide you for the fasting strategy.

Tip #5. Know Your Stressors Before They Cause Dis-Ease

Do you even know what is the source of your stress?

According to Dr. Datis, a mental health expert and author of one of my favourite go-to-books – Why Isn’t My Brain Working? The most common stressors for most Americans is a sugary, high-carb diet.

Other common stressors that contribute to brain degeneration include: Smoking, Food Intolerances and Food Allergies, Anemia, Bacterial Gut Infections, Gut Parasites, Autoimmune Diseases, Joint Pain & Inflammation, Poor Digestion, and many more.

Check out my amazing delicious ‘Macadamia Fudge Squares’ recipe.

It is important to work with a certified practitioner that can help you identify the source of these stressors and address it. Because what many people fail to understand is that any time your body must struggle to compensate for imbalances and poor function, it creates a physiological stress response. Datis, argues that if any of these metabolic issues go on unattended long enough, the brain becomes the ultimate victim.
